An exceptional Napoleon III bureau plat (flat writing desk) in the celebrated Boulle marquetry technique, circa 1860. The desk surface and drawer fronts are elaborately decorated with première partie Boulle work—scrolling brass inlay on a tortoiseshell ground—framed by fine ormolu edge mouldings. The desk features three frieze drawers to the front with matching faux drawers to the reverse, and stands on four cabriole legs adorned with ormolu espagnolette mounts and sabots. The top is lined with tooled burgundy leather. Dimensions: 150cm x 80cm x 78cm.
