Details
A rare surviving panel of William Morris’s iconic ‘Strawberry Thief’ pattern, produced at Morris & Co.’s Merton Abbey Works using the traditional indigo discharge printing method, circa 1900. The design depicts thrushes stealing strawberries among an interlacing pattern of flowers and foliage in rich indigo blue, red, and green on a deep blue ground. This labour-intensive printing technique was Morris’s favourite, requiring multiple stages of printing and dyeing. Dimensions: 120cm x 85cm. Framed behind UV-protective glass. Minor age-appropriate fading.
